Welcome Letter

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the beautiful city of Toronto, Canada, and the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) 2018 Meeting.

The PAS consists of four sponsoring societies: The American Pediatric Society, the Society for Pediatric Research, the Academic Pediatric Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. In conjunction with our affiliate organizations, we have assembled a wide-ranging program of invited and submitted science designed to expand your personal and professional horizons spanning academic pediatrics.

The PAS 2018 Meeting brings together more than 8,000 pediatricians, research scientists, health care providers, and policy makers from around the world united by a common mission: to improve the health and well-being of children worldwide.

During your time in Toronto, you’ll have the opportunity to

  • hear presentations from internationally renowned scientists on a wide array of topics
  • learn about the latest original research in many specialty and sub-specialty areas
  • share experiences in workshops and special interest groups
  • honor the achievements of young investigators and more senior esteemed pediatricians
  • build connections and network with colleagues and friends

We are excited to share with you the first-ever strategic plan for the PAS Meeting. This plan, recently adopted by the PAS Meeting Executive Committee, codifies our aspirational vision: The PAS Meeting will be the premier North American scholarly child health meeting.

This year, we moved the opening general session to Saturday morning, so you can listen to this year’s exciting and inspiring Debbie Anagnostelis Keynote Address by Roberto Canessa, Italian Hospital of Montevideo, entitled “The Triumph of Human Spirit.” Also at the opening session, Dr. Mark Schuster will receive the Joseph W. St. Geme, Jr. Leadership Award. Surrounding the opening session, join your colleagues for two new, complimentary events—a Welcome Coffee Break and Opening Luncheon.

With so much happening, how will you find what is important to you? In response to your feedback, we have a new online program guide that provides enhanced search and print capabilities, plus an updated mobile app. Both will allow you to track sessions, speakers, abstracts, topic areas, and more.

Beyond the scientific sessions, be sure to take advantage of new health and wellness activities—Yoga and Fitness Boot Camp—on Sunday morning. Attend the poster sessions and engage the young investigators in thoughtful discussion. Enjoy meeting new colleagues as well as reconnecting with alumni and old friends. The PAS 2018 Meeting brings a world of discovery and engagement to you. Enjoy!

I look forward to seeing you in Toronto.
